The Northern Gas Pipeline and Beyond - Jonathan Spink - NGP Project Director

The Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) project gained the trust and support of the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal landowners, local businesses, communities and stakeholders by ensuring there were tangible benefits for the region and delivering on our commitments. This presentation gives an insight into how important this local participation was to delivering the pipeline.

However, the NGP is the only the first step in Jemena’s strategy for developing transmission infrastructure across northern Australia. The Northern Territory Government's decision to allow on shore gas development means that Jemena can now pursue plans to extend the NGP to support gas development in the North, building on the strong relationships that have been forged through the NGP so far.

Its encouraging to note that Australia is on the way to becoming a major player in the international LNG market and the Territory is building its capacity to become a recognised global oil and gas hub. NT looks forward to the completion of the INPEX Ichthys project, expansion plans for Darwin LNG plant operated by ConocoPhillips, the launch of Shell Prelude into production phase, the construction of the Northern Gas Pipeline, and now the potential for the onshore gas industry heralding a future for gas development, processing and supply operations.

The potential for the growth of the onshore industry in the Territory is remarkable and has been recognised as an unrivalled global precedent, rich in resources and development opportunity. Over the coming years the industry will see world-class investment in the sector through exploration and production of unconventional oil and gas. Forecasts indicate that as the industry grows, the Northern Territory will see game-changing economic growth.

With a positive decision to proceed with the development of the onshore gas industry, it is important that the industry, government and supporting businesses work together to ensure safe and responsible outcomes to benefit the Territory.

The recent expansion for Energy Club NT also aligns with the Northern Territory Government’s 50% Renewable Energy target by 2030 opening opportunities for investment and business growth in the region.

Please complete an expression of interest form for consideration to participate in this years event. Confirmation will be made as soon as possible.
